During 2020, US police departments used methods that otherwise only occur in dictatorships. They cooperated with violent thugs to allow said thugs free access to peaceful demonstrations. The police unleashed violence without regard for whether their victims were protesters or not, attacking the very old and very young, they fired their guns at journalists, etc.

The only time the police have shown restraint was when a mob of armed insurrectionists wanted to break into the Capitol.
